very create joomla pages people happy know how turn on computer. :)
so have wishes, our customers tell us. maybe inspiration developers care usability.
1. lot of people not understand, checkin funktion for.
there should option to:
- disable check-out / check-in
or
- "check-in items" button in backend (everybody must see it. best big red button big screen! :) )
or
- checkin 1 item klicking little button pubish , frontpage buttons in itemlist
or
- more possibiltys administrate page frontend. menümanager, core-components, create user-defined modules...
>>> don't use word "check-in"! explain user why has checkin. not read page! have ever read manual of video-recoder??
2. automatic saving or warnig should save while writing article great.
many people dont press apply button while writing, need 1 hour typing little text see login page when save.
i think automatic saving hardly reallize, little warning 1 minute before end of session lifetime should implemented.
3. content , menu-item assistent
for many people hard learn how create menu- or content-items. assistent fantastic.
maybe work this:
what want do? answer: write article. section? answer: news. category? answer: latest news. title? answer: titletext.............
maybe in frontend.
4. explain more!
the tooltips great. everyday askes me example: alias-field for? why have publish items? (yes! realy ask why must publish want publish on internet...)
what if there function (the user should able disable it) creates frame, layer or else, user must see, @ left or right side. when user moved mouse on field, link or tooltip-icon frame, layer or whatelse, explain field is, , happens when klicks button.

in germany have abbreviation people don't realy know computer , think complete internet on cd provider:
dau (german = dümmst anzunehmender user) in english: most stupid exepted user
ok. maybe it's hard saying stupid. works a supporter knows mean.
"my monitor doesn't work! > have turned on? > yes! think i'm stupid? > please turn off. > oh! works now."
joomla realy great cms , quite easy use. think making more easy dau can use thing.
maybe there joomla dau-editon.

users typically aren't stupid. joomla users.
i can think of number of usability enhancements:
separate mootools panels, instance, in way: want see parameters; have ability print them out , review them... or @ least have option admin, without having track down parameter files on server.
kind of edward tuftian "more more" approach, rather "less more."
and seriously: alias for? search engine friendly urls (that i'm afraid use in 1.5)? or else well?
