Screen Mode Madness

i really, hate "maximize screen mode option". work in "full screen menu bar" close image while in view, app switches on stupid maximize mode. has figured out way avoid this? why app switch viewing modes after closing file? must doing wrong or missed setting somewhere.

is there suggestions...short of hitting f key bunch of times everytime open file.

are related ed semick died 35 years ago in indiana? friend , heck of man.
