Things not to say - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support


there's lot of designers here. , know have made mistakes in promised (potential) clients. yes, want confidence. yes, want account. , yes need seduce them. i'm wondering mistakes other have made... or mistakes have avoided because know how works. hope others learn mistakes... , maybe i'll learn yours, mistakes made , mistakes avoided.

i'll give 2 examples.

1. seduction. let's there's lady fancy. i'm dumb male, i'll miss signals. know that. women more subtle. men dumb, yes me too. there's 1 mistake i'll never make. let's want her. minute that, can backfire. if it's soon, she'll think want her body... or fact think she's available. wrong wrong wrong. it'll backfire. there's 1 point in time when can "i want you" , answer want... time, don't need it. right?

2. seduction. let's there's potential client want. they'll ask me "can joomla or that" or ask me "can or that" (basically same question anyway). , i'm trying gain confidence. i'm not sure if joomla (or i) can this. if this: "i think that's not gonna problem". intent of course gain confidence. cause want account. think doing smart thing saying think it's not problem. turns out wrong , problem. how ever gonna talk myself out of one? i'll have lost confidence might have had in me.

so clients? or webmaster website visitors? have made lot of mistakes, maybe there's other forum members here willing let me learn mistakes made or mistakes avoided.

let's each other out here. let's try learn 1 another. cause people forget important letter in abbreviation. not information, not technology (well, both component - i'll grant that)... should written ict... cause communication. don't forget c in ict!

for me, learning on fly natural thing, since there no possible way can ever know everything going potentially do.

that not shouldn't have idea of can done.  there important distinction there.

what know can do, , can done, 2 different things.

it fine art learn when , how should approach latter.  me, find relationship build client first key, , second being nonspecific how i'll go doing needs done.

what won't give people false sense of can when don't know if can or can't done.  in scenario client asks me i'm not sure can done, err on side of honesty, , tell them that.  people not going expect know things.  rather have give them truth yes them death, find out later can't live promises.

a example; worked promotional company in nyc years ago.  president true salesman, , things promise people used baffle me.  remember coming out of meeting had sat in awe of things promised client.  sat silently, not wanting contradict him, @ same time, amazed things left mouth.

after meeting, walking office.  disturbing silence.  finally, turned me rather worried (as sure sensing utter shock) , said "so, think can that?"  sounded more plea question.

"no, actually, can't" said matter of fact.

"oh."

that end of conversation.  later on, of course, ended finding way it.  meant insane work me, , cost more money made, made work. 

the damaging thing can in client relationship promise them world, , not deliver. 

for me, i'm realistic, , i'd rather lose client put myself in compromising position.

that doesn't mean don't take chances.  in controlled way.  if i'm rather can done, won't hesitate can it, , work out details of how later.  if i'm not sure, i'm more happy let them know i'll need time research it, , i'll give them definitive answer @ later time.  may not job, @ least me respect, , peace of mind i'm not blowing smoke in order pull in deal might not client or myself.

and continue analogy, can say, women know intentions regardless of manner.  they're smart that.  don't have word.  make sure intentions in right place, or you've lost them before opened mouth.  because sooner or later, you're going have prove it.
