Tablet pen selection tool

i have been working on book of museum firearms while now. using pen tool in photoshop cs2 select firearms place them in indesign cs3 text wrap. have done numerous rifles selecting outside edges, closing path selecting 2 or 3 inside paths, closing each 1 complete path. paths completed have cntrl clicked on working path in path palette saved selection alpha channel. has worked great until 2 days ago. now, after have created paths when cntrl click on work path first selection highlighted , others disappear allowing me save first path. in reading files see can add paths channel clicking add channel icon have never used before. ideas this?
