Thread: update-grub makes menu.lst

hello....
i
installed ubuntu 9.10 2 days ago, dual boot xp...and i'm in middle of it...

went well, small detail, troubles habits...ubuntu sets bootloader , xp lowest on list....because begin ubuntu still use xp main platform while, , want boot automatically.....

looked in forums , found out have make change in /etc/default/grub , set default on position xp is....and update-grub make the grub.cfg file new.... when did update-grub, looking menu.lst , asked if want let him make one...first said no...nothing changed...then said yes , made menu.lst....and this after update-grub:

searching grub installation directory ... found: /boot/grub
searching default file ... found: /boot/grub/default
testing existing grub menu.lst file ... found: /boot/grub/menu.lst
searching splash image ... none found, skipping ...
found kernel: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-14-generic
found grub 2: /boot/grub/core.img
found kernel: /boot/memtest86+.bin
updating /boot/grub/menu.lst ... done

seems update-grub not fit grub2, instead of updating grub.cfg makes menu.lst, usual in old grub....but definitly not possible, there old ubuntu on computer...is there possiblity @ script of update-grub or change somehow?

when boot up, actual version of grub display? version number @ top. old grub 0.97 (i think), new 1 should 1.97.

possible you've got grub , grub2 on same system, although should end if upgraded. fresh install should have got grub2.
