Two reverse geocache boxes, one classic and one using Android phone as GPS

hi guys,

i brand new arduino , looking design 2 puzzle boxes gift. idea of feasibility , difficulty.

one box large chest, , 1 classic small reverse geocache box such here reverse geocache box example.

i believe of information regarding classic box exists, focus on large chest.

i have imgur album here can used visualise project imgur album.

in nutshell, want fit 4 locks using servos large chest. each lock works independently of each other, 3 locks need meet different gps conditions open. final lock on timer, counting down on phone.

the gps conditions met using android phone. once phone in right gps location , user hits button, new button appear when pressed within bluetooth range of chest activate 1 of servos, releasing 1 of locks. classic reverse geocache user have limited number of attempts find correct location.

i wanted use mobile ap meet gps conditions, large chest heavy move around, , wanted have bit of theatrics attached, large, heavy locked chest arrives @ door, , sits in house until puzzle solved.

the phone communicate locks in box via bluetooth (in picture thought second gps module make sure chest , phone in same location, bluetooth seems smarter since short range , can used communicate phone box).

i have minor coding skills, having written web crawlers in python, , designing basic website using wordpress. basic coding in sas @ work. have never written android, though hope of code required exist , require adaption.

i interested in peoples thoughts on this, , appreciate guidance. have 4-6 months complete.

thanks!

edit:

i have bought number of parts in anticipation of project, know need other bits , pieces, including more servos, thought enough build, design , test android ap, before picking final parts start chest. if can see important have missed appreciate knowing!:
  • funduino uno r3
  • adafruit ultimate gps breakout - 66 channel w/10 hz updates [version 3]
  • micro servo - high torque metal gear
  • protoshield basic arduino
  • hook-up stranded wire - black (22 awg)
  • 9v battery holder
  • bluetooth shield v2
  • solderless breadboard power supply , jumper lead kit
  • weatherproof metal on/off switch blue led ring [16mm blue on/off]
  • weatherproof metal on/off switch green led ring [16mm green on/off]
  • resistor 10k ohm 1/6th watt pth - 20 pack
  • basic 16x2 character lcd - white on blue 5v
  • wire stripper 10-20 awg solid (12-22 awg stranded)

were going use serial bt, or keep debug?

if not, sure save pins 8 & 9 altsoftserial.  it's more efficient softwareserial, prevents pwm on pin 10.  if need pwm pin, use neoswserial instead of softwareserial on 2 pins.  neoswserial not altsoftserial, better softwareserial.

i'd suggest taking @ gps library, neogps.  it smaller , faster other libraries, , can configured parse messages , fields use.  arduino in small box using adafruit gps module, not phone, right?

cheers,
/dev
