Thread: nvidia driver fails to start X

i had reformat , install jaunty karmic not support sound card , find impossible version of nvidia drivers function (two days trying watch video now!)

i've tried using restricte hardware installer, installs version 96 gives me black screen on restart. i've used envy-ng install each of 4 availalbe drivers in turn none of them work - message freetype not loading , x bombs out console login. card worked fine last time installed jaunty, i'm @ complete loss went wrong time.

possible card damaged , won't load 'proper' drivers reason?

there magical way these drivers load properly?

missing filename after '-o'
