CS3 Black and white tool stops working after one use

i have scoured internet find answer , havent. black , white tool works 1 time per photo. can re-open tool, nothing happens when move sliders. made sure preview box checked, , if move sliders , click ok out of it, no changes made. tried saving , rebooting program no avail.

there 2 ways use black , white functionality:

- image>adjustments>black & white...

- using black & white adjustments layer in layers panel

which trying use?

if using first method, behaving expected. black , white function converts b&w based on colors in color image. if there no colors (other b&w), not going (unless maybe select tint option).

if want ability conversion , tweak later, use b&w adjustment layer.
