Best way to remove female GPIO connector from screen? - Raspberry Pi Forums

one way have done broken screen pop black plastic top off connector, exposing pins, , yanking them out 1 one needle nose pliers. problem pretty violent , may break screen.

way secure screen, pop black plastic top off connector, , hold soldering iron on pin while trying pull out. has 3 flaws: dangerous/clumsy, requires more hands have, , screen working has no support tabs safely mount , down motion while working on it. skipped method.

way have tried pop black plastic top off connector, melt bottom plastic soldering iron , pry off exposing top , bottom of pins , grinding them flat dremel tool, , drilling each hole out dremel tiny drill bit set. problem remote attachment dremel not precise enough keep skipping , tearing off top layer of pcb , threatening short out. dremel tends scratch top layer of pcb while grinding pins , while drilling.

1 thing had in mind variation of second method instead buying drill press better speed control dremel allow me clamp down screen , of course secured @ drill end. drill method still going expensive , tedious if has other better methods hear them.

taking off plastic , unsoldering each pin safe way this. find way hold board in vice or sinmilar (but without undue force, , not on screen itself), 1 hand soldering iron, , 1 pliers.

not drill board. holes may have plating through them, join top , bottom tracks. damage these terminal. damage tracks slipping drill bits difficult repair.

not melt plastic. fumes @ best unpleasant, , wrecks soldering iron bit.

alternatively, use board intended without removing connector.
