selecting layers in CS3

how select individual layers within groups way in cs2? clicking layer selects whole group. command click doesn't work unless first manually select layer in layer menu , command click layer. if click outside image area starts select other layers. i'm working on 200 layer files , it's driving me crazy. how can turn cs3 cs2?

also, when creating actions involves "selecting previous layer" how do in cs3? instead of "selecting previous layer" action in cs3 becomes specific "select layer 154" means can't use action other layers....
