Thread: Gnome does not start on login

well, going solve own way end breaking system.
i'm working on ubuntu studio 9.10 karmic koala gnome, in first installation state removed pa system. today installed 'xserver-xorg-input-joystick' package, did terminal 'sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-joystick', package demanded uninstall phyton dependencies didn't recognize important thread pressed 'y' proceed installation, restarted system , desktop folders didn't show up, nor panels background picture did. did next login again restarting pc taking in count random stuck gnome happen weeks ago, unusual happens, after realize gnome wouldn't start once again loged again changed desktop environment 'xterm' has terminal led me start 'gnome-panel', 'metacity' , 'nautilus', led me have gnome enviorement working again, no apps or configuration lost, can work flawless good. must before install 'xserver-xorg-input-joystick' installed 'software-center' new remove/install software manager in regular distrubution, updated system, must after installed them restarted system , nothing went wrong i'm sure 'xserver-xorg-input-joystick' had do, looked @ '.bash_history' see if somehow lines shown dependencies uninstalled there, no luck. fortunately find them in 'log file viewer' under 2 sections, first , merely obvious 'aptitude':

this on 'dpkg.log'. taking in count uninstalled 'xserver-xorg-input-joystick 1:1.4.0-0ubuntu1' , re-installed packages synaptic package manager, of course in process read use of each one, restarted system , no luck, looking @ situation installed once again 'xserver-xorg-input-joystick 1:1.4.0-0ubuntu1' having uninstalled or quite same, it's courious time, installed synaptic package manager, did not demanded other of anterior packages have uninstalled. thoughs directed in configuration file perhaps made enough myself , wouldn't ruin current instalation of gnome have working smooth, @ least problem of graphical desktop not vital @ all, maybe work kde or enlightment while find solution this, apreciated.

First use of Arduino Uno : avrdude error on Blink uploading

hi all, i bought arduino (or should genuino) starter kit. first test , failing. i have follow religiously first pages , when trying upload blink sketch, uploading fails avrdude error : avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer not responding. as suggested in other posts, have tried 1) switch latest hourly build of arduino ide 2) switch previous stable version of arduino ide (1.6.09) 3) change usb cable 1 know working fine 4) make same steps on computer (unfortunatelly, of them macos running on macos 10.11.6, not interesting test) 5) press reset before upload, interesting thing : tx led never flashes the full log attached. idea of why happening ? to save people having download log, it's sync error, resp=0x00 every time: code: [select] avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer not responding avrdude: stk500_getsync() attempt 1 of 10: not in sync: resp=0x00 avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer not responding and he's running 1.6.11 hourly avrdude 6.0.1. ...
