I can't 'Place' an EPS into an Alpha Channel??? Why???

hi everyone,

hope can help.

i've downloaded trial version of photoshop cs3 try out before upgrade photoshop cs1. on whole love new features, can't seem 'place' eps (or file) alpha channel, 'place' menu greyed out?

i've been able place eps files alpha channels every version of photoshop can remember, essential way work , can't imagine not being able basic of photoshop operations.

can tell me if there kind of new way, don't know about, of placing eps files alpha channels?

i know place eps new layer , copy , paste alpha channel, that's such backward, time consuming , long winded way of working.

it makes me wonder if has gone wrong when installed photoshop trial copy , 'place' option not functioning properly. can 'place' eps's layers no problem, not alpha channels. makes no sense adobe disable basic function, can't understand it?

can shed light on me please, because i'm baffled!

missing filename after '-o'
