CS4 Content Aware Scale....poor results?

i have big hopes (and more few jobs) benefit new feature, after several attempts, left frustrated. demos amazing, after trying on small (1 meg), medium & large (150 meg) files left wondering if useful first imagined.

in nutshell, post-stretched images lousy, horrible stair-stepping visible @ 25% screen magnification (the stepping visible in print). aliasing seeing clumpy, stretched, jpeggy-looking artifacts apparent in area of slight contrast.

unless have chosen wrong random test images (???) or have missed should doing, disappointed.

before go off much, wondering if else has done testing or noodling around enough pass along opinion.

i seeing behavior when stretching either horizontally, or vertically, , stepping apparent @ amount of stretching (no need exaggerate stretching 200%)

any opinions or thoughts welcomed.

i have tried on dozen images both vertical , horizontal attempts either increasing or decreasing size , quality horrible (unusable) same effects describe unless changes limited 10% max. agree demos impressive never show details after changes have been made. have followed 2 or 3 tutorials @ 100% results horrendous. either both doing wrong or content aware scaling disaster.
