Photoshop backwards compatibility

i have ps cs2, client has ps cs3. need ask him save or
export in special way can open psd file?

i'll upgrade if that's choice, don't use photoshop lot,
and hoping few years out of it.

i should mention file i'm getting client has type
layers, , want make sure these remain editable. see
"maximize compatibility" saves flattened version of file, ,
don't know if means resulting file contains
flattened version of document, or if resulting file contains
flattened version , unflattened version of document. if
contain 2 versions, cs2 able open unflattened version?

maybe want asking photoshop pdf (pdp) file?

missing filename after '-o'
