Cannot resize Raspbian Stretch lite images with Parted - Raspberry Pi Forums

hello,

spent few hours today setting sept 2017 version of raspbian stretch lite on pi. working 16gb sd card , wanted resize partition smaller before making backup in case needed restore backup smaller sd card. went resize raspbian installation on sd card using gparted (on ubuntu machine) , sd card won't boot in pi !!

apparently raspbian images since april 2017 don't work parted...
https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/q ... -partition

has else had problem? apparently fdisk doesn't mess partition parted (gparted) i've read through these links...

how shrink ext2/3/4 file system resize2fs --> https://access.redhat.com/articles/1196333
how resize partition using fdisk --> https://access.redhat.com/articles/1190213
how grow ext2/3/4 file system resize2fs --> https://access.redhat.com/articles/1196353

... , using fdisk whole load of tedious command entering don't need.

know why these newer raspbian images don't play ball parted? raspbian os going updated does? doubt parted updated work raspbian.

thanks,

flex

i read through article @ first url posted , seems pretty clear going on. unclear you?

says problem parted (and, therefore gparted) changes partuuid (whatever is) on disk (sd card) , causes current (unmodified) versions of raspbian fail boot. because (since april 2017, why date shows in article repeatedly) current versions of raspbian use partuuid instead of old /dev/mmbclk0p2 stuff locate rootfs. seems clear enough me.

tbh, sounds incarnation of "predictable names" thing ethernet devices; attempt fix wasn't broken.

in case, if doing this, i'd change references (in cmdline.txt , /etc/fstab) mmcblk0p2 , done.
