Thread: Can't boot Ubuntu after upgrade to 9.10
hi,
i've searched threads no luck. i'm newbe ubuntu.
here's problem:
upgraded 9.04 9.10. during restart grub load stage1.5 menu (dual-boot vista). no matter version of ubuntu select ("recovery mode" or "generic") same results. tried live version of 9.10 cd won't recognize linux partition in "places" (tried sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt keeps asking file system). after grub menu selection, ubuntu logo moving bar comes on screen. next, graphics disappear , folowing text on black screen:
init: ureadahead main process (2833) terminated status 5
mountall:/proc: unable mount: device or resource busy
mountall:/proc/self/mountinfo: no such file or directory
mountall: root filesystem isn't mounted
init: mountall main process (2834) terminated status 1
general error mounting filesystems.
maintenance shall started.
control-d terminate shell , re-try.
give root password maintenance
(or type control-d continue):
using control-d gives same info except "main process number" chanes (i.e., 2866, 2867, 2875, etc). i've pressed control-d 60 times no luck.
if type password get:
root@don-linux:~#
none of commands i've written down other threads work @ prompt.
i'm loving ubuntu having trouble command line structure of it.
can me this?
in advance,

hi,
if faced that.... after calming down, i'd re-install grub2. seems route of least pain you, appears pretty messed up.
need know partition ubuntu on - covered in drs's excellent how-to
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...ghlight=drs305
want heading section 12.
if instructions don't work, points towards grub2 - reinstalling grub 2:
more involved method. 1 of 2 & running.
if, after getting ubuntu back, win area has vanished, there's how-to that, --> http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1014708
remember - you're in grub2, not grub legacy.
regards,
phill.
