Powering the Pi and pi peripherals? - Raspberry Pi Forums

hello,

i'm new forums , looking advice. i'm working on little project , have several things powered 5v , 2-3a power supplies. pi itself, screen, speaker, , led assembly. want have these contained in box 1 plug in. looking advice on best way that. looking @ usb charging hubs option, wasn't sure if there better solution.

in advance advice!

hi:

isn't advice, cuz there many variables. anyway, don't know you, have number of different wall wart style power supplies lying around. of them 5v, 12v, , 20v dc supplies. laptops require 20 v supply. in past have managed plug wrong wart pi, frying it.

so, projects, automatically include dc-dc converter in box. available pretty small (maybe same size pi, or little bigger) - , don't require changing bigger enclosure. come in different power capacities, , different voltage adjustments , monitoring means (some fixed voltage). 1 that's powerful enough cover pretty number of peripherals might later add box, or plug it. make sure has solid voltage stability no matter voltage plugged it, limit (around 30v mine).

so, can use *any* of wall warts, long they're of sufficient power rating, , have dc voltage between 7v , approx 30v, , have converter's 5 volt output pi. don't have supplies on 20v, there's margin (probably idea). don't have worry plugging wrong thing box (read tears).

i'm no power supply expert, between idea, , brightly colored fingernail polish (different color dab onto ends of each different voltage plug) - haven't burned more pis.

internally, use plugs , short cables, , run them converter. when it's convenient, solder directly boards.
