Thread: Bluetooth ubuntu X windows XP

hello all,
experiencing interesting "bug?" in ubuntu , xp systems via dualboot. able use bt in ubuntu, depended on luck factor whether brought or no. times, now, unable see bt adapter.

today wanted use bt (mobile, applet responded "no adapter present" text. after trying different kernels (31-14,31-16, livecds karmic , lucid alpha 1), none of them managed bring bt. decided try fiddle bit bt in windows xp. i've installed bt driver, paired phone , restarted ubuntu. bt active.

have say, able use bt yesterday via karmic\lucid(?) livecd without problems before installing bt drivers in xp. so, can explain me why "my" bt acts ridiculous piece of hardware ever?
i've noticed following "dmesg |grep bluetooth" change:

before installing drivers (not working bt):
code:
$ dmesg |grep lueto [ 0.272011] bluetooth: core ver 2.15 [ 0.272027] bluetooth: hci device , connection manager initialized [ 0.272027] bluetooth: hci socket layer initialized [ 1.460628] bluetooth: l2cap ver 2.13 [ 1.460630] bluetooth: l2cap socket layer initialized [ 1.460633] bluetooth: sco (voice link) ver 0.6 [ 1.460635] bluetooth: sco socket layer initialized [ 1.460678] bluetooth: rfcomm tty layer initialized [ 1.460682] bluetooth: rfcomm socket layer initialized [ 1.460692] bluetooth: rfcomm ver 1.11
and after successful bt bringing up:
code:
~$ dmesg |grep lueto [ 0.272011] bluetooth: core ver 2.15 [ 0.272027] bluetooth: hci device , connection manager initialized [ 0.272027] bluetooth: hci socket layer initialized [ 1.460628] bluetooth: l2cap ver 2.13 [ 1.460630] bluetooth: l2cap socket layer initialized [ 1.460633] bluetooth: sco (voice link) ver 0.6 [ 1.460635] bluetooth: sco socket layer initialized [ 1.460678] bluetooth: rfcomm tty layer initialized [ 1.460682] bluetooth: rfcomm socket layer initialized [ 1.460692] bluetooth: rfcomm ver 1.11 [ 17.388051] bluetooth: generic bluetooth usb driver ver 0.5 [ 18.888253] bluetooth: bnep (ethernet emulation) ver 1.3 [ 18.888257] bluetooth: bnep filters: protocol multicast
rfkill list shows both now:
code:
0: hci0: bluetooth soft blocked: no hard blocked: no 1: phy0: wireless lan soft blocked: no hard blocked: no
(i have laptop toshiba a200)
code:
bus 005 device 002: id 0930:0508 toshiba corp. integrated bluetooth hci
so, can me guys this? ever able set bt without using xp or no?
sorry such long post, interested in solving "bug"
in advance

hi michalxo,
did tests on eeepc 1000h, integrated bt, ubuntu 10.04 a1 , bluetooth package 4.51-0ubuntu2 (default)

parameters change bt (& wlan) behaviour:
- bios enable/disable on board peripherals
- s/w kill switch (fn+f2) acts differently on xp
- s/w enable/disable bt or wlan via application (click selection icon)

reproduced problem when used bios disable bt peripheral worked fine after clicking bt icon , 'turn on bluetooth'. remember package came out 'working' last days before release of ubuntu 9.10 possible have 'bugs' on different h/w.

case, try 'enable' every peripheral bios, not use fn+f2 (or other soft kill switch) , not bother signing leds. use enable/disable selections application software (on both o.s.) till find steady working state. 'debug' non working condition , developers filling bug report launchpad.

regards,
george

p.s.: testing above found fn+f2 or 'turn on bluetooth' enables onboard camera (bug).
