Thread: How do I 'Add ath_hal to the DISABLED_MODULES= '

hi,

totally new fiddling linux. have used terminal before. installed unr on dads acer aspire one. need wifi working. guide suggests 2 methods,
ath5k method

and

madwifi.

first says signal may weak or drop out i'll use second. tells me to..

in order have wireless work after reboot, add following line /etc/modules ("sudo gedit /etc/modules") automatically load module when booting:
ath_pciyou should have working wireless. may want following prevent problems (the symbol mismatch) when module loaded:
add ath_hal disabled_modules= stanza in /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common
(i.e. 'disabled_modules="ath_hal"')

how add line refers to? , how add latter phrase? abstract. don't know adding let alone how add it.

thanks!

well, guide talking file /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common, , adding line it, namely <disabled_modules="ath_hal">. can manually opening file editing <gksudo gedit /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common> , adding required line. side note, karmic doesn't have linux-restricted-modules package, , might not have above file.
