we on our 3rd generation of raspberry pi , find myself painted corner.
each new processor has been released have had rebuild projects 1 @ time looking through command history , rerunning commands best can duplicate each step , trouble shoot along way.
use raspberry pi run food bank database user check in , out, tracking notes , return dates.
has been working great many years each new pi has brought improvements offered.
pi made possible.
pi 2 made faster
pi 3 give built in wifi can eliminate hardware.
pi standalone dhcp enabled ap lamp stack houses database , gets unplugged , secured when not in use.
here issue:
after fighting through new mysql install no longer prompts password got rest of stack loaded , tried load phpmyadmin transfer databases pi. discovered using , installed mariadb.
after format sd 10th time , start on because don't want mariadb. there way install phpmyadmin without installing or running on mariadb? there way upgrade running pi2 rasbian install can cloned , run on pi3?
why in development of these packages when there forks in road , decision made change phpmyadmin use different database can't decision made leave old version available , easy find. phpmyadmin-mysql / phpmyadmin-miriadb
stands logon phpmyadmin , have no privileges. can't see user manager.
can't logon root no matter have tried , clean install.
mysql working can't phpmyadmin control it.
why must each new chapter mean starting on working?
why can't script out permanent package name can used.
wouldn't great if ask pi installed , not generic services running functional install script install identical packages created or @ least whatever upgraded last.
desperate rant because didn't expect simple upgrade have done before turn 3 days of staying night nothing show it.

i wanted add consequence of these changes instructions , tutorials have rewritten , updated. has been 1 of best things owning raspberry pi. didn't have ask 1 have. if have latest build , follow instructions work every time package changed instructions countless tutorials broken. permanent package name(or install number) allow tutorials / instructions work , 1 update when done.
afraid happen if upgrade existing pi2, change existing phpmyadmin run mariadb? break has been working years?
