Tip for quickly selecting contrasting colours?

hello,

i have custom brush defined of signature put on photos. want signature subtle doesn't detract photo, use colour blends colours in corner of photo. signature visible, yet doesn't attract attention.

as examples, signature shade of green on grass, blue on ocean, grey on asphalt, etc.

selecting color use trial-and-error, tweaking several times isn't bright, dark, or contrasting background. each photo needs different colour, becomes time consuming after hundreds of images.

is there tool or other way in ps (either cs2 or cs4) select colour more quickly? perhaps 1 picks "average" colour area signature, , tunes bit brighter or darker show up?

at moment experimenting using eye dropper, set 101x101 sample averaging (the largest available). signature brush selected, alt-click average colour. still need make colour lighter or darker, otherwise signature blends in well, invisible. shortcut key way lighten or darken selected foreground colour?

thanks,
kdj

try using various blend modes brush, in option bar. luminosity might choice.
