Read thru a few posts within forum, still little confused(wifi shield/module)

so after watching post home automation , wireless access , internet access, recommended individual wifi shield. have ton of wifi modules already, have ask, benefits using wifi shield vs wifi module?

are same thing in sense of end results? module pinto version , shield cadillac version?

i mean why want / need spend $80+ shield when can use or module $10 or less..

just looking clarification.. mean if shield easier working can understand, if looking automate of house wouldnt module right choice..
