CS3 installs, but freezes when I attempt to load it (no splash screen... just loads forever)

i have been able install adobe photoshop cs3: extended multiple times, have yet run application. after installation, when try open program, window appears "adobe photoshop cs3" @ top , large grey box nothing inside of it. mouse cursor turns hourglass , that's it... left there hour , half once see , continued in endless loop of nothingness.

i have custom-built computer amd phenom x4 9850 black edition, 2x2gb of ocz 1066mhz reaper ddr2, gigabyte motherboard gx790 chipset (sb750 southbridge), , 2x1 terabyte raid 1 array.

it's running in brand spanking new windows xp professional installation service pack 3.

i have tried following:
1) uninstalling , reinstalling (same result)
2) uninstalling adobe programs, running adobe clean script @ level 4, running windows install cleanup remove remaining adobe remnants, , reinstalled. (same result)
3) doing in step 2 again, copying cd hard drive, , installing hard drive. (same result)
4) doing in step 2 again, making new administrative user account , reinstalling (same result...)

the adobe tech support guys encountered came pretty crazy (and flat stupid) explanations problems.

one guy claimed serial cs1 , somehow i'd gotten cs1 disk happened come in cs3 box, cs3 disk label, happens "adobe photoshop cs3 extended" after install it... yeah... right.

another said should reformat... yeah right. installed xp professional. terrible advice.

another said had tried , wouldn't run on computer... , (as if should satisfied program spent many $100s on refuses work , there nothing can it).

yet guy (after got shipped off indian technical support...) said he'd seen problem many times before , it's linked instruction code error related amd phenom processors , there should patch out it. however, looked threads people phenom 9850 cpus (my cpu!) claim running software flawlessly.

can give me hope here? i'm call adobe again , attempt kind of intelligent answer problem, in mean time hoping against hope else out there has had problem , managed solve it.

i try temporarily install on different computer, see if computer or application culprit.

another thing copy photoshop folder on desktop, , install there.

the window describe, grey, except "adobe photoshop cs3" @ top. application window, or error message? "photoshop.exe" in windows' tasklist?
