how to use arduino in master and slave formation

hello, want use 4 arduino boards 3 boards slave while 1 master, how possible interface them in master slave formation, please guide me in regards.

also possible interface master arduino board plc ( programmable logic controller), if yes, how can it?

why many arduinos? beginners thing answer not knowing how program correctly.

you can use i2c this, examples master , slave in ide under examples menu.

how far apparat these arduinos? i2c bus 5 feet.
