photoshop cs3 crashes when opening .tif of any size

hello,

ever since upgraded cs3, .tif try open
crashes photoshop. no matter how small.

i can open in illustrator or graphic converter without
a problem. wants when have been using
photoshop create,open, , save .tifs years?

any appreciated.

10.4.11 dual 2.3 power pc g5 4.5 gb ram

did repair permissions both before, , again after, installing cs3?

does happen if run photoshop in new user account (with administrator privileges)?
