Creating accurate mask in PS CS4

hi. i'm using photoshop cs4 , trying cleanly select flower. flower has white background i'd remove; i've used select > color range. however, still leaves rough edges around flower's petals. becomes apparent when drop black background behind flower -- has fuzzy edges needed have been selected , removed.

any ideas on how cleanly remove background , not have jagged edges? thank you.
